April 16, 2017 – Easter Sunday Services, “The Living Christ – The Testimony of
the Apostles,” Calls Home
This morning’s Easter Sunday Sacrament meeting was
excellent. President Hall planned the theme around the Savior, His resurrection
and His plan of salvation for all men. The mission choir sang “That Easter
Morn” and “He is not Here.” Their music was beautiful, uplifting and fitting of
this sacred and holy day. I could listen to it and be absorbed in it all day
and never tire.
Last week Pres. Hall mentioned in Mission Training
Meeting that the mission had lots of surplus supplies that needed to be shared with
the guest that visit Old Nauvoo. One of the items in particular he wanted us to
share ware printed copies of “The Living Christ – The Testimony of the
Apostles.” Since today is Easter Sunday I think it is particularly appropriate
that I share some of the words of the Apostles and their testimonies of the
Savior as it relates to Easter:
“. . . we offer our testimony of the
reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning
sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived
and will yet live upon the earth.”
“. . . sentenced to die on Calvary’s
cross. He gave His life to atone for the sins of all mankind. His was a great
vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.”
“We solemnly testify that His life,
which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded
on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the
flesh, the Redeemer of the world.”
“He rose from the grave to “become the
firstfruits of them that slept” (1 Cor. 15:20). As Risen Lord, He visited among
those He had loved in life. . .”
“Of Him the Prophet also declared:
“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the
testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!”
Every Easter in the past Sis. Johnson has hosted a
large family dinner at our home on Easter Sunday. However, this year like last
year we have been away from home serving the Lord as missionaries. We miss our
family at this time of year but we know we are doing His work and serving His
children. Next year we will be able to resume our Easter Sunday Dinner
tradition at our home.
We did get to talk and
video chat with several of our families. Thanks to the miracle of Skype and
texting. Even the phone calls we received are wonderful and we enjoy talking
with so many of our grandchildren. We had a very enjoyable Easter Sunday.
