We Opened Our Mission Call

Monday, November 9, 2015 – Opened mission call at Jim & Betty Burk’s house.

We have been anxiously waiting for our mission call to arrive from SLC for a week now. We were in Eagar all week and came home Saturday so we could teach Course 13 in Sunday school on Sunday. Finally on Monday it came. We invited everyone to meet at Jim & Betty Burk’s home in East Mesa and be part of FHE.

There were about 40 people there so their house was full. Pam and I were in the living room facing all of our family and friends as Pam opened the envelope. She started to read the first paragraph and stopped so I could join in with her and read, “… You have been called to serve in the Illinois, Nauvoo Mission….” Everyone in the room cheered. Pam’s hands were shaking; she was so overcome with joy. Having been called to the Illinois, Nauvoo Mission was truly a blessing and a dream come true. We are delighted with our mission call.

For our 35th wedding anniversary, September 7, 2006, Pam and I went to Nauvoo for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we visited all of the historic sites, took tours and attended the Nauvoo Temple. At every venue and everywhere we went we saw and talked to senior missionary couples serving as guides or singing and dancing in a number of musical productions. Several times during our visit, Pam said that someday she wanted to serve a mission in Nauvoo too. Well, that desire and wish has finally come true.
