4, 2017 – Sunday Services, YPM Concert, Service Missionaries for Dinner
Today was a wonderful Sunday full of special
lessons & Events. To start with we had an excellent Priesthood meeting
taught by Elder Long. The lesson material was taken from this First
Presidencies message in this month’s Ensign “Called to the Work” by Pres.
Thomas S. Monson. It was so special because we are all missionaries here and
we’ve all been “Called to the Work.”
Elder Long pointed out
that several times during President Monson’s life including when he was a young
Apostle he said many time: “Who God Calls, God Qualifies.” I find it very
significant here in Nauvoo that the Lord has called a lot of OLD people without
any singing, dancing or acting experience to sing, dance and act. When Sis.
Johnson and I got here, over a year ago, we were more than a little bit nervous
about being on stage to sing, dance and act. But the promise of Pres. Monson
has come true. Now, because the Lord has qualified us for our callings, we LOVE
being on stage to sing, dance and act. It is truly a joy and a privilege to be
on stage each night and share our testimonies through song and dance. We love
it!
Speaking of being on stage, this afternoon we went
with Charlie & Charlotte to a concert at the Visitor’s Center to listen to
the YPM’s (Young Performing Missionaries) sing and play their musical
instrument to several sacred and holy hymns. It was truly an amazing show and
words can’t describe the beauty of their performances and the feelings we
received from the Holy Spirit. One of the numbers they performed was “Come Thou
Fount of Every Blessing” and it sent chills up my spine, it was so powerful.
I’ve never heard it done better, even by the Tabernacle Choir. It was truly a wonderful concert.
This evening we had the
FM Young Service Missionaries over for dinner at our house. Elder Kyle Johnson was
anxious to show off his grandparent to the other Elders he shares his apartment
with. We were just as anxious to have them in our home for dinner. Sis. Johnson
planned a great meal: you can’t go wrong with two huge trays of Lasagna topped
off with lemon meringue pie for dessert. Mmmm-Goood.
