Sunday, April 3, 2016 – General Conference, Tour of Carthage Jail
Today’s sessions of
General Conference were wonderful, from Elder Waddell’s talk on “Our Search for
Peace” to Elder D. Todd Christofferson’s talk on the important “Role of
Fathers” in our self destructive world to Elder Robert D Hales talk on the
“Gift of the Holy Ghost” and to Elder Patrick Kearon’s talk on “Refugees”. Wow,
what a spiritual feast we enjoyed.
Between sessions of
conference, Sis. Johnson and I went over to the Carthage Jail Visitor’s Center
and joined a group of tourists that happened to be there. We jumped in line and
took the tour of the jail with them. We just barely started our training so
technically we are almost like tourist ourselves.
But . . . tourists or
not, trained tour guides or not, you have to know, when you are in the very spot
where Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were martyred, it is sacred and
hallowed ground. The Spirit that we all felt there testifies that the Prophet
Joseph Smith and his bother Hyrum sealed with their own blood their testimonies
of the truthfulness of the divine work of the restoration of the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
