Sis. Johnson & I attended Church early this morning. Meetings started at 7:50am so the Elders and Sisters would be on time to the various sites to give tours. The testimonies borne in the meeting were very special and we could feel the spirit of these wonderful Elders & Sisters who love the Lord and their service here in this precious place.

It has been almost ten years since Sister Johnson and I attended church services in Nauvoo.  It was 2006 for our 35th Anniversary. We were here for 3 days and enjoyed our time here very much. The events of that Sunday have stood out in my mind and I’ve remembered them with fondness ever since.

Friday and Saturday, September 8 & 9th we had visited most of the sites, strolled the grounds, watched the films in the visitor’s Center, toured the historic homes, taken the wagon and oxen cart tours, watched the evening theatrical shows of singing & dancing and attended an Endowment session in the Nauvoo Temple. We were swallowed up in the emotional spirit of this wonderful place. The next day we attended Sacrament meeting and just like today, felt the wonderful spirit of the Elders and Sisters as they gave talks and bore testimony of this sacred and hallowed ground.

As we left Sacrament meeting ten years ago, literally chocked up with emotion and the spirit, Sis. Johnson turned to me and said, “This is where I want to serve a mission someday. “ Well, it has taken 10 years and a mission to the Dominican Republic in between but the wish of her heart has been granted. We are here doing what we saw those Senior Elders & Sisters doing ten years ago. Sis. Johnson and I couldn’t be happier.
