Tuesday, January 17, 2017 – Mission Training Meeting, Transplant
Foxglove Seedlings
What a difference a day
makes. After a full day of warm rain yesterday there is no snow or ice left
anywhere. Even the pond in front of our house has started to melt.
Today was our weekly
Mission-Wide training meeting. Once again Pres. Hall gave us a feast of
knowledge, information and inspiration and he managed to compress it all into an
hour meeting. He covered the Illinois
Nauvoo Mission Missionary Principles. One of the quotes he gave that touched me
personally was from President Spencer W Kimball who said: “The Gospel changes
people from the inside out. The world tries to change people from the outside
in.”
Pres. Hall was our only
speaker and he covered the material we will need to know for next week’s
Church-Wide missionary training. It will be a live feed from SLC and be sent to
all of the stake centers around the world. It will be great.
After our training
meeting Sis. Johnson and I worked with Richard the rest of day in the
propagation room. We transplanted small Foxglove (Digitalis) seedlings into
multi compartmented trays with 72 cells each. By the end of the day we had
transplanted almost 600. Foxglove is a perennial so once they are in the
gardens, they should be around and beautiful from year to year.
This evening Pres. &
Sis. Hall came over to visit us in our home. Even though they are visiting each
of the seniors in the mission, we felt special as it was a privilege to have
them in our home and to feel their spirit and genuine love and concern for Sis.
Johnson and I. When they were about to leave, Pres. Hall asked if he could
offer a prayer before they left. Pres. Hall pronounced a blessing on our home
of peace and safety that was truly beautiful. We love and appreciate Pres.
& Sis. Hall and all they do for us as well as for the whole Illinois Nauvoo
Mission.
