Saturday, January 7, 2017 – Preparation Day, David’s Chamber Scenic Turnout

Today is our preparation day so we got to clean our house and do our shopping. Getting out of the house is a good thing even though it is cold outside. On our way to the grocery story we saw lots of wild life like deer and bald Eagles.
On our way back from the store we stopped at “David’s Chamber Scenic Turnout.” This is a beautiful roadside pullout with picnic tables, located about a mile south of Nauvoo. The turnout is named for David Hyrum Smith, the youngest son of Emma and the Prophet Joseph Smith but he was born after Joseph and Hyrum were martyred. As a young man David would often come here to read, meditate, pray, write poetry, and paint.

David’s Chamber is now part of the State Park system. In the summer it is a beautiful and tranquil spot. Perfect for a family outing and picnic. Today it is beautiful in a different way; it is frozen solid including the waterfall.

After our trip to the store Sis. Johnson and I have enjoyed our time at home without the rush of so many things to do and places to go. Rest is good. We are still recovering from our whirlwind trip to Arizona earlier in the week.
