Monday, January 23, 2017 – Family Search Center, Women’s Garden, Dress
Rehearsal
We started our day
cleaning the “Family Search Center” across the street from the Temple. The
hedges haven’t been cleaned since last October and they were completely full of
fall leaves. We used our big backpack blowers to dislodge the leaves. The
“Family Search Center” is operated by the Iowa Des Moines Mission but since
they don’t have a grounds keeping department here in Nauvoo, they contract with
FM to do all of their lawn, tree & hedge work.
The rest of the day was
spent cleaning the Women’s Garden. The sidewalks, flowerbeds and hedges were
still full of fall leaves. Again the back pack blowers did a wonderful job. It
took about five hours to finish but now everything is clean and looks great.
Last April Sis. Johnson
and I were in Carthage and we spent weeks pulling fall leaves out of the hedges.
The only blowers we had were hand held
and they didn’t have enough power to dislodge the leaves. We didn’t know there
were powerful back pack blowers in Nauvoo we could have used. Had we known the
Carthage hedges would have been done in an afternoon not weeks. Wow, what a
difference a powerful blower makes.
After work we had an
appointment at the Cultural Hall for a dress rehearsal. This time it was with
the other editor, Elder Wilson. He’s very good as is Elder Bowler, the editor
we rehearsed with last week. For each of the vignettes in Rendezvous in Old
Nauvoo, Sis. Lowe has two of everyone. In case someone gets sick or has an
emergency come up, there is always a backup cast member who knows the part.
Since everyone is different, it’s important for Sis. Johnson and I to rehearse
with each of the various cast members we will be performing with.
