Wednesday, June 1, 2016 – Mission Training Meeting, Mulch the flower beds, new blower, Ken & Emily Layton
This morning’s mission-wide training meeting was taught by Mark Lusvardi from the Church Mission Dept. He travels the world teaching missionaries how to teach by using the spirit and the lessons in “Preach My Gospel.” He told several testimony building and inspirational stories of conversion through the power of the Holy Spirit.  It was a very good meeting.

Back at the Carthage Visitor’s Center a crew of workers were busy covering the soil in all of the flower beds with mulch. The mulch helps hold in the moisture and also makes the flower beds look nicer.

When the crew finished and everyone was packing up to leave, Sis. Johnson got a surprise gift from Scott Higley, our grounds keeping boss. He gave he a brand new leaf blower! Scott said FM needed a few new leaf blowers so he decided that Sis. Johnson would get one of them. She is really happy with it. Scott took our oldest blower back to FM for repairs. It was a pain to use because the on/off switch always malfunctioned, it was hard to start and sometimes, once it was running we couldn’t stop it.
This afternoon while I was working on the grounds we discovered a cousin and his family were here to visit Carthage. Ben & Emily Layton from Mesa, AZ were here with their family. They’ve already spent a couple of days seeing all of the historic sites in Nauvoo. They have another day before they leave. It was good to visit with them. It’s always amazing who many people come through here that we know or have a connection to.

We fed the Sister Missionaries again tonight, Sis. Kenedi Goble from Killeen, Texas and Sis. Hannah Lynn of Gilbert, Arizona.  Last Sunday all but one of the Sisters here in Carthage were transferred to Nauvoo. Sis. Goble was the only one left here. Her Companion is Sis. Lynn. She has been on her mission for 14 months. Sis. Goble is a new Sister, she started her mission just 3 months ago.

Once again, the dinner was a feast and afterward we were treated to a spiritual feast. But this time it wasn’t the Sisters who gave the message, it was Sister Johnson. She told the inspiring story of Hna. Mecho in the Dominican Republic from our first mission there in 2009 – 2011. For tonight’s dinner we had good food, good stories and a good Spirit!
