Wednesday, June 22, 2016 – Mission-wide training Mtg, Family Living
Center, Trimming trees
After our Mission-wide
training meeting this morning in Nauvoo we went to “The Family Living Center”
to pick up Sis. Johnson’s new runner. Some of the things they make at the
family living center on their looms include decorative table runners. Sis.
Johnson picked out a small pretty on and bought it.
While we were there we
bumped into a crew from FM (Facilities Maintenance) working on pruning the
bushes. Sis. Johnson and I can appreciate the scope of their job. We only have
the grounds at the Carthage Jail to maintain, FM in Nauvoo has over 500 acres
of grounds to manage and keep beautiful. It’s a huge responsibility and they do
a great job.
Back at the Carthage
Jail Visitor’s Center Sis. Johnson and I helped Scott Higley (Our Boss) prune
the trees that line the sidewalk leading to the visitor’s center. For months
now after every storm we’ve been picking up large limbs and small branches. The
lower limbs are all dead and they break away easily. We’ve been afraid for
weeks now that one of them would fall and hit a guest.
Next Monday we will have
the special commemorative program on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Joseph
Smith and his brother Hyrum here on the grounds of the Carthage Jail Visitor’s
Center. We want the grounds to be beautiful and
completely ready for the event. Trimming the trees and making them safe as well
as beautiful was on our long list of things we want to get done before next
Monday.
