Sunday, June 5, 2016 – Fast & Testimony Meeting, Soy Beans &
Corn
This morning’s Fast
& Testimony meeting was very inspirational. President Hall conducted the
meeting and therefore gave the first testimony. He said that he and Sis. Hall
drove to a settlement called Ramus, Illinois by the early pioneers (today it is
named Webster). It is located just northeast of Carthage, only a few miles from
where Sis. Johnson & I live today. It is of interest because it is the site
of the very first chapel built by the saints in this dispensation.
Today there is nothing
left of the old chapel. The important events that took place there was a visit
by the Prophet Joseph Smith on April 2, 1843 & May 16 and 17, 1843. It was
there the Prophet Joseph received the revelations that are now Sections 130
& 131 of the Doctrine and Covenants.
These two Sections of
the D&C teach about several doctrines including the nature of God, the celestialization
of earth as well as “the new and everlasting covenant of marriage.” What a
blessing and a thrill it would have been to have been there, sitting at the
feet of the Prophet as he taught these sublime truths.
President Hall
concluded by saying that he bears testimony that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of
God. That he walked and talked with God and received revelations at His hands.
That Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the restoration of this, the dispensation
of the fullness of times. Today’s Fast and Testimony meeting was very, very
good!
