Thursday, June 23, 2016 – Cleaning with the YSSM’s, Traffic Control, Crowds, Dallas TX Youth Conf.

Again this morning two of the YSSM’s (Young Single Sister Missionaries) came to put in service hours at the Visitor’s Center. This time is was Sis. Garrison and Sis. Barahona. (We had them over for dinner on June 8th) They worked hard like Sis. Carter & Sis. Darrington did on Tuesday. We continued to clean the gutters, curbs and sidewalks that surround the visitor’s center city block.  Sisters Garrison and Barahona worked for an hour with me and we finished cleaning the north and east sides of the block. It looks great now.
This evening we performed in “Sunset by the Mississippi” and I had a new assignment. I was asked to be on “Traffic Control” duty before the show. My job was pretty simple. I had to direct traffic into the parking lot at the far end of the road so the pedestrians walking to the performance wouldn’t have to dodge cars on their way from the parking lot.

Tonight’s performance of “Sunset by the Mississippi” had the largest crowd in attendance so far this season. The seating area was almost completely full. They’ve told us that all of the shows in July will be standing room only. But that’s not a problem, no tickets are required and there is a gently sloping hill on the east side of the stands were people spread blankets or bring their own chairs. There is room for everyone.

This morning at the Carthage Visitor’s Center we had 3 tour buses arrive from Dallas Texas. The same group was at tonight’s performance of “Sunset by the Mississippi.” It turned out that they were the youth and leaders from a stake youth conference. They will be here in Nauvoo/Carthage for 4 days. They have 110 youth and 20 leaders and the bus ride from Dallas took them 12 hours.  I’ll bet they will have a GREAT youth conference.  I can’t think of a better place to take youth than here in Nauvoo/Carthage.
