October 16, 2017 – Frost, Monday Morning Clean Up, Planting Tulips in Women’s
Garden, More Planting after Lunch, Washing the House after Work, Dinner with
E&S Lindeburg
This morning was cold.
It was the first morning we had frost on our car. The thermometer said it was
39 degrees outside but the frost on the windshield meant it was at least 32. I
thought we have been unseasonably warm for October so I checked my records and
our first frost last year was on October 13, 2016, so we are very close to last
year’s pace.
Over the weekend we had
some serious storms and wind. Saturday afternoon and evening was the big storm
but Sunday the wind blew very hard all day. We knew there would be a lot of
downed limbs and debris to pick up this morning. As we did our usual leaf
blowing we also picked up a lot of downed limbs from the storms and wind. I was
a little surprised, there wasn’t as much debris as I expected.
This morning we
continued our Tulip bulb planting. We were in the Women’s Garden this time. We
planted the two very large center gardens. They weren’t all Tulip bulbs, about
a fourth were the big beautiful Jonquils. I don’t know for sure but we probably
planted between 2500 to 3000 bulbs this morning.
After lunch we went
right back at it again. Only this time we got to have fun in the "Perennial"
garden close to the south end of the Women’s Garden. This garden doesn’t get
pulled each year; instead the "Perennial" flowers come back on their
own each spring. So this flowerbed got a healthy dose of bulbs and ferns that
will come back year after year. Richard laid everything out for us to plant.
It’s going to be beautiful next spring and summer.
After work this
afternoon I spent several hours cleaning the outside of our house. I don’t
think we are required to wash the outside of our home before it receives its
final inspection before we leave but I washed it anyway. It does look a lot
better now without all of the Midge Flies stuck in so many spider webs.
