Sept. 13, 2017 – Zone Training Meeting, Wm Weeks New Flowerbed & FLC
This morning we attended
our Zone Training Meeting. Our Zone Leaders are Elder & Sis. Hughes and
they do a great job of teaching and preparing us to do a better job here in
Nauvoo. At the conclusion of the training Elder Hughes taught us about the role
we as missionaries play in helping others feel the Spirit as we teach, give
tours or even work at FM.
Elder Hughes quoted from a talk given by Elder
David A. Bednar at the Provo MTC on June 24, 2011 titled, “Becoming a Preach My
Gospel Missionary.” This quote is very powerful and touched me deeply as I
listened. Elder Hughes’ presentation was excellent.
Elder
David A Bednar: “A Preach My Gospel missionary is a servant of the Lord, called
by prophecy and authorized by the laying on of hands, who proclaims the
Savior’s everlasting and restored gospel (see D&C 68:1)in His way” (See
D&C 50:13-14, 17-24).
“But
Elder and Sisters, we must be careful to remember in our service that we are
conduits and channels; we are not the light. “For it is not ye that speak, but
the Spirit of our Father which speaketh in you” (Matthew 10:20).
“This work is never about
me and it is never about you. We need to do all in our power to fulfill our
missionary responsibility and simultaneously “get out of the way” so the Holy
Ghost can perform His sacred function and work. In fact, anything you or I do
as representatives of the Savior that knowingly and intentionally draws
attention to self – in the messages we present, in the methods we use, or in
our personal demeanor and appearance – is a form of priestcraft that inhibits
the teaching effectiveness of the Holy Ghost.”
Since we had Zone training this morning we had a
shortened work day. We still got a lot done and we started back at the historic
William Weeks home. We prepared yet another flowerbed on the west side of the
house but unfortunately Richard was called into a meeting and we weren’t able
to plant it today. We’ll probably get it done tomorrow.
We finished our work day at the Family Living
Center and in the Liriope beds at the Visitor’s Center weeding, cleaning and
killing volunteer trees.
