Tuesday, September 05, 2017 – Transplanting Coleus, Hauling Concrete at the Pageant Building, Baby Bunnies in the Garden

Today Sis. Johnson started in the greenhouses transplanting the Coleus rooted cuttings we prepared months ago. They are now big enough to put into three inch pots and continue their progression toward next spring’s planting. Coleus make a great display in the gardens and with hundreds of colors and patterns to choose from they can tickle any gardener’s fancy.

Mean while I was off to the Pageant building with Elder Walker, Elder Kyle Johnson and Elder Cantwell. Our task wasn’t nearly as fun as transplanting Coleus. We walked a very large field and picked up chunks of concrete. I told you it wasn’t fun.

The lot we were cleaning up belongs to the church and it is being made available to a local farmer to grow hay. Instead of collecting rent, the church, through FM, gets part of the hay crop for their livestock. A win-win for both. Unfortunately the empty lot used to be a Go-Cart raceway and when the concrete track was removed there were a lot of chunks of broken concrete all over the ground. It turns out that farm equipment can be damaged by the large chunks of concrete. So, before the farmer can prepare for planting it was our job to pick up as much concrete as we could find.

This afternoon when we got home from work I watered my garden. I hadn’t watered it since last Friday but today I was in for a little surprise. Actually three little surprises. Three little baby bunnies, cottontail rabbits to be exact, got flushed out of the garden as I watered along with their momma. Two of the baby bunnies beat it before the water got them but one of them came out soaking wet.
