Sunday,
Sept. 24, 2017 – Church Services, Sarah Granger Kimball Home, Alan & Nancy
Norton, District Meeting
This morning’s Sunday
services were very good. Our Fast & Testimony meeting was punctuated by some
of our Senior Missionaries that will be going home soon. Everyone bore powerful
testimonies. The missionaries here are wonderful dedicated servant of the Lord
and we will miss those that are leaving soon.
This afternoon we were privileged to serve in the
historic Sarah Granger Kimball home here in Old Nauvoo. The home is one of the
oldest wood frame homes in Nauvoo and dates back to the early 1830’s before the
Saints settled in Nauvoo. It has lasted over 180 years which is good for a
wooden structure which usually succumbs to rot, termites or fire. It has been
continually occupied and well taken care
of which accounts for its longevity.
While giving our tours today we had another one of
those sweet surprises. A couple came in to take the tour and though we don’t
know them, we discovered they are from our home Stake back in Arizona. They are
Alan and Nancy Norton from the Amberwood Ward and Bro. Norton is on the Stake
high council. The Norton’s are here in Nauvoo for their anniversary. We had a
nice discussion about how the Ward and Stake are doing back home. It was fun.
We will get to see Bro. Norton again in six weeks when we report to our Stake
High Council.
This evening we had our monthly District meeting
and dinner. In anticipation of so many Senior Sisters and Senior couples
leaving the mission this fall, Pres. Hall re-aligned all of the districts and
our district is rather large for the moment. In the next month and a half the
rest of the Seniors finishing their missions will go home and that’s when the
districts will be at the right size. Next spring there will be a whole new
group of Senior Sisters and couples that will arrive.
