Monday, August 01, 2016 – Great Weather for Cleaning, Our First
Tomatoes
We woke up to wonderful
weather again for working on the grounds of the Carthage Jail Visitor’s
Center. For the past week or so we’ve
had cooler weather coming down out of the north and it’s been very pleasant. Even
though the humidity is still relativity high, our day time highs have only
gotten up to the low 80’s, just wonderful weather.
We picked our first
tomatoes today. Fresh, home grown and vine ripened. Mmmm Goood! They’ve been a while coming on
but the wait is worth it. Elder & Sis.
Bowler live at the Bushnell House and they have five pots full of tomato
vines and loaded with fruit. They picked their first tomatoes last week. Their
vines have ten times more fruit than ours.
Back in Mesa, Arizona we
would have been picking tomatoes months ago and by the first of August the
vines would all be dead and gone. What a difference between here and our home
back in the desert.
Last Saturday was the
last day for the Nauvoo & British Pageants. The summer season is winding
down and there are only two more weeks left before the YPM’s (Young Performing
Missionaries) finish their last show and they will be gone too.
Tonight we had our
regular “Rendezvous in Old Nauvoo” performance. Tickets are required because
there are only about 80 seats in the Cultural Hall where we perform. If all of
the tickets are taken for the 7:00pm show then we put on another show at
8:15pm. Of course we’ve been performing twice each night all summer because of
the large crowds.
An interesting thing
happened tonight for our “Rendezvous in Old Nauvoo” performance. Both shows were
about 90% full but before the second show started, there were over 40 people
waiting outside in the stand-by line, hoping to get in! The house manager kept
asking people already seated to move over and make more room. By the time the
show started, only about 10 people had to be turned away. Wow, what a huge and
“rowdy” crowd! They clapped and cheered all the way through the show, they were
great.
