Friday, August 12, 2016 – Jacob & Wendy in Nauvoo, Church News
report on Elder Ballard’s visit to Nauvoo
Last Saturday, August
6, 2016, Elder M. Russell Ballard was here in Nauvoo for a family reunion of
the descendants of Joseph Smith Sr. & Lucy Mack Smith. I wrote a little bit
about my feelings and impressions as Sis. Johnson and I had the privilege of
listening to an Apostle of the Lord address his cousins at the family reunion
but also the 250 or so missionaries that serve here.
Today I discovered the
official news report of the events of last weekend in the Church News. The
authors of the report did a much better job than I did telling about Elder
Ballard’s visit. Here is the link to the report: http://beta.deseretnews.com/article/865659936/Elder-M-Russell-Ballard-lays-wreath-in-Nauvoo-cemetery.html
I highly recommend you
read it. It is very good.
Today Sis. Johnson and
I didn’t get much work done on the grounds here because it was raining. Jacob
& Wendy and family went to Nauvoo to visit the historic site for the day. And
they saw and enjoyed a lot. They got home bubbling over with stories of all of
the sites they went to. They really had a good time.
They saw the show “Just Plain Anna Amanda” at
the Cultural Hall. They went to the
“Family Living Center” and made a rope and watched the loom demonstration. They
went to the Jonathan Browning Gunsmith Shop, the Skovil Baker, the Tin Smith’s,
the Printing Shop and the Blacksmiths.
Sis. Johnson and I
stayed home because our car was in the shop and we had to wait for it to be
finished. Tomorrow we hope to spend the whole day with our family seeing the
historic sites in Nauvoo.
