Friday, July 01, 2016 – Pam’s new plants, Aaron & Mira Daniels
Hooray, we had rain
overnight. This morning the rain gauge said .82” of rain. It wasn’t a lot but
even a little bit helps. The corn & soybean farmers of Central Illinois
really need the moisture. Nauvoo was luckier, they got an inch and three
quarters. The grass lawns of Historic Nauvoo were all brown and dying, this
rain will really help them.
This morning Sis.
Johnson set to work on the three planters that needed help. She used the two
flats of new plants we picked up from Richard yesterday and now the planters
are full and beautiful again.
A little after noon Bro.
and Sis. Daniels (our friends from Mesa, Ariz.) arrived from Nauvoo. They spent
about two and a half hours here in Carthage with Sis. Johnson and I. We attended a tour of the Carthage Jail
together.
Our tour started in the
Visitor’s Center with a five minute video. It was excellent. The video was a talk by Elder Jeffrey R
Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve from a few years ago. I cannot explain in
words here how good it was, so I will let you click on this link to see it for
yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkKblIMfmjI
Our tour guide was Sis.
Metcalf. She did a wonderful job giving the tour. I’ve never heard any other
tour guide give such detail and interesting information about the history of
the jail, the items on display in the jail and the details of the martyrdom. I
cannot go into Carthage Jail without feeling the power of the Holy Spirit
testify to me that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, that this spot, the very
place where Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were killed is hallowed ground
and that their blood will testify forever of the restoration of the Gospel of
Jesus Christ in these latter-days.
