Monday, August 21, 2017 – Clouds Lightning and Rain, Indoor Projects,
Women’s Garden & Visitor’s Center, Eclipse of the Sun
We got to work today under threatening cloud that
followed through on their threat. Lighting crackled and danced as thunder
boomed all around the FM compound. We had to scramble for shelter as we watered
the outdoor benches.
We had to find indoor
projects until the rain stopped. Elder Kyle Johnson, Elder Cantwell and I
worked in the greenhouses pulling the dreaded weed, Oxalis. Weeding the
greenhouses is a good rainy day project. Sis. Johnson worked in the propagation
room washing and sanitizing pots that will be used next winter and spring.
Once the rain stopped
Elder Kyle Johnson and I were off to the Women’s garden, the Visitor’s Center,
the Cultural Hall and Old Main street to blow the sidewalks and cleanup after
the wind made a mess of things. Elder Cantwell went with Elder Coleman to water
the planters and flowerbeds at the Visitor’s Center and on Main Street. The
Rain probably wasn’t enough so they had to finish giving everything a good
drink of water.
After work today we were treated to the Solar
Eclipse that the rest of the nation enjoyed. Here in Nauvoo we were supposed to
be at 95% eclipse. Unfortunately, just before the eclipse reached its maximum
here, big black ominous clouds rolled into Nauvoo and completely blocked out
the sun.
Sis. Johnson, Elder Kyle Johnson and I used special
eclipse approved sunglasses and we got to watch most of the eclipse. When it
got to about 90% that’s when the clouds moved in and the show was over for us.
