Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 – Corn stalks, Endowment
Session
After our usual Wednesday mission-wide training meeting Sis. Johnson and
I went to cut corn stalks. Sis. Johnson is on the “Boo-tiful Nauvoo” float
committee. She and several other sisters will be decorating the Mission Float
for the Boo-tiful Nauvoo town parade.
Ever
Halloween the town of Nauvoo has a parade down the center of town. Every year
the church has a horse drawn float decorated for Halloween. There will be
pumpkin carving at FM and the whole town is invited. Last year there were over
500 Jack-O’lanterns carved by the town’s people as well as the Senior
Missionaries. The commercial district will be completely decorated for the
season.
Sis
Johnson is excited and eager to help decorate the float. It will have up to 40
stalks of corn in bundles of 4 or 5 stalks all over the float. We had to pick
the corn stalks now because they won’t be available much longer. Within the
past two days the harvesting combines have started harvesting the corn in the
area and all over central Illinois. The farmer’s field we picked from rents the
land from the church and each year he lets us cut all we need.
This afternoon we went
to the Nauvoo Temple with Grandma & Grandpa Burk. The temple is a special
place and we enjoy serving there.
