Saturday, September 03, 2016 – Baptism’s of the Dead, Wagon Ride, Tour
Historic Sites of Old Nauvoo
Our day started at the
Nauvoo Temple. Valerie and Samantha were baptized for the dead by Nathan and I
got to do the confirmations. It is a
wonderful privilege to serve in the temple. Samantha turned twelve two weeks
ago and this is already her second time to do baptism for the dead. Last week
she went with the Ward Young Woman as part of the Ward youth activity. Lucky
girl!
Next we went to the Nauvoo wagon ride and took
a tour of the streets of Old Nauvoo. Our tour guide was Sis. Hall. The wagon
ride with the running commentary is a nice way to see the various homes and
shops on the streets of historic Nauvoo. Sis Hall did a great job, she. gave us
a brief explanation of all of the buildings and their history. It was very
informative.
Right before the wagon ride started Sis.
Johnson had a very stressful and painful experience. A wasp flew up her skirt
and stung her three times on her legs. It took her several seconds to get the
wasp out. She was in a lot of pain but
fortunately the pain didn’t last very long. Within an hour she was completely
pain free. She said this was the first time this has ever happened to her.
After the wagon ride we
took tours of the Wainwright Shop, Wheelwright, Blacksmith, Brick Yard, School,
Browning Gun Shop and the Times & Seasons Print Shop. All of these various
venues are crowd favorites and the most visited in Nauvoo. The Browning Home
and Gun Shop is the most visited of all the historic sites in Nauvoo. And for
good reason, the Jonathan Browning gun display is legendary. Members of the
church and non-members alike come from all over the nation to see this historic
site.
I don’t have time and
space here to tell you all of the wonderful things we learned at each one of
the historic sites but suffice it to say they were all very good and
informative. We should be able to visit several more tomorrow after church.
